Lake Michigan Residence
This two-car garage detached structure houses living quarters above for friends and relatives away from the hustle and bustle of the large impressive existing “cottage”. The design takes into account not only the traditional forms and natural materials of shake siding and stone used on the existing residence, but also of its natural surroundings on the Lake Michigan shoreline.
The upper level living quarters have direct access to the beach front and main residence via the expansive deck and free form pathways. Two small bedrooms, bath, living and kitchen areas provide guests with a peaceful, relaxed “getaway” space. Every “nook and cranny” was used in this small functional design.
The lower level garage is bermed into the backside of the existing dune with the use of reinforced concrete retaining walls, which protects the dune area from erosion. This small addition complements the existing residence and surroundings of woodland, dune and beachfront.
